Richard A. Walsh formed a church charter under the name of St. James Roman
Catholic Church |
| 1872: a parcel of land was purchased in
the 700 block of East Clay Street |
1875: the parish was activated under
the new German priest, the Rev. Joseph Spaeth |
1878: construction of a new church building
at 752 E. Clay St. and was dedicated |
1912: the present "German"
Gothic style church at 742 E. Clay St. was built and dedicated |
1949: the first major renovation of the
church took place |
1977: the second major renovation of
the church took place |
2000: the third major renovation of the
church took place |
2002: the renovation of the church was
completed |

1911: the old church building was torn
down and present school was built |
